Vinyl Wrapping for Lyme Regis Museum, Dorset

A testament to local history 

Lyme Regis Museum has a rich history dating back to 1900-1 when it was built by Thomas E D Philpot, then mayor of the town. Today, the museum is a custodian of hundreds of locally-sourced fossils and other artefacts of historic interest. Notably, the museum is renowned for its quirky displays which tell of local tales and mysteries. 

Recent modernisation of the building has improved admission numbers with the Mary Anning Wing. A new direction has also been taken with displays to make them more eye-catching and interactive. 

THE BRIEF

To print beautiful vinyl for plinths 

Creative Solutions were approached by Lyme Regis Museum to help them design and envision new types of display and interaction points. It was decided that full-colour, high-resolution vinyl plinths would be the ideal product for bringing displays to life. This excellent branding work was completed by another local company, Coastline Creative. 

We were contracted to print the vinyl for the plinths. Several designs were chosen to bring the Lyme Regis Museum brand to life. Unique artworks, beautiful calligraphies and interactive phrases were chosen to make every plinth pop. 

THE SOLUTION

A complete print and installation service  

Printing of the vinyl began at our Axminster unit as soon as we received the files. The vinyl chosen was a high-grade coloured vinyl with a matte finish. Plotted vinyl was used for decal work. The plotted vinyl was created with application tape, an expert process which ensures that spacing of the artwork is correct. 

The vinyl was applied onsite by our installation team. It was applied directly onto the wooden plinths, which had been painted beforehand. Most plinths were painted the same colour as the vinyl background for a seamless appearance. A complete print and installation service was provided to ensure a smooth experience for the customer.
