External Art Prints for Woodroffe School

At Woodroffe School, they believe in blending creativity with innovation. Our latest project involved the installation of two striking art prints on ACM (Aluminium Composite Material), transforming simple walls into windows of imagination.

These unique installations—one showcasing a serene woodland scene and the other depicting an adventurous astronaut—have added a vibrant and thought-provoking dimension to the school's environment.

What is ACM and Why Use It?

Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) is a versatile material made from two thin layers of aluminium enclosing a non-aluminium core. It's known for its durability, lightweight properties, and smooth finish, making it an ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor art installations.

The decision to use ACM for these prints was driven by its ability to withstand weather conditions while offering a sleek and modern aesthetic that complements the school's architecture.

The Installation Process

The process of creating and installing these art pieces involved several key steps:

1. Conceptualisation and Design: Woodroffe had a firm idea in mind for the two blank wall spaces in their outdoor eating area and were able to provide the artwork and window layout they wanted for each piece. Our in-house graphic designers only needed to check these over for quality, and size them appropriately to the desired final installation area.
   The idea was to create windows into different worlds—one that invites viewers into a calming woodland escape, and another that ignites curiosity about the cosmos with an astronaut-themed piece.

2. Printing on ACM: The selected designs were then printed onto a high-tack, self-adhesive vinyl  which is then laminated to give it its desired outdoor warranty. We offer 1 year, 5 ear and 7 year, as well as a PVC-Free 4 Year option! This method ensures vibrant colours and longevity, making the artwork resistant to fading and weathering.

3. Installation: The finished ACM prints were carefully installed in the designated locations within the school. The installations were strategically placed to mimic windows, creating the illusion that one could step through and be transported to another place.

The second piece presents a striking image of an astronaut, evoking the endless possibilities of space exploration. The astronaut is depicted floating in a starry expanse, suggesting themes of discovery and adventure. This installation serves as a reminder of the vastness of the universe and the potential within every student to reach for the stars. Positioned in a common eating area, it sparks curiosity and conversation, inspiring a sense of wonder and aspiration.
