Forde Abbey House & Gardens

Forde Abbey is a 900-year-old Abbey, set within 30 acres of award winning gardens that have a spectacular array of season flower displays much to the delight of anyone with a green thumb. The gardens allow you to stroll through naturalised wildflower lawns, topiary-lined vistas, a kitchen garden and more, whilst the house invites you in to see the stunning Mortlake tapestries.

Set in the middle of the gardens is the lake with the famous highest powered fountain in the country, which we highly recommend seeing in action! A gift shop, pottery, specialist plant nursery and coffee shop make it a full day out for all the family.

Responsibility for this wonderful home was inherited by the Kennard family in 2009. They continue to live here, farming as the Cistercians did over five hundred years before them. Visit Forde Abbey.

THE BRIEF

On-Brand Post Mounted Signage

This summer Forde Abbey have been doing a great deal of work refreshing and updating many areas of the site for their visitors. One of the biggest and most important projects on their list was to update and install new signage to help with directions and way-finding, as well as making their entrance much more easily visible in their hidden location on the country lanes in Devon.

We first conducted a site visit with the team to open the floor for their ideas, vision, signage placement and talk materials, time-scales and budget.

All the aluminium signage needed to be in the same sapphire blue colour, with clear and easily legible text in gloss white. Installations were agreed and the project included a mix of both panel signage and post mounted units for their main entrance, house and gardens, chapel, bog garden, as well as directional signage showing the way out, exit, toliet's and other on-site facilities.

THE SOLUTION

Branded Post-Mounted Signs

After discussing several options, sizes and designs, the Forde Abbey team opted for the traditional and long-lasting aluminium post-mounted signs, each tailored to its location. The project also included some wall-mounted aluminium panel signage for their on-site facilities branded in the same sapphire blue with white gloss text.

Our aluminium is 2.5mm thick as standard and can be cut from large sheets to any size or shape required with our state-of-the-art water-jet cutter. Once prepped your panel can then be fitted with channels on the rear for post mounting, or drilled for wall-mounted or projecting signs. For that well-known long-lasting finish, we will then powder coat all panels in any RAL colour of your choosing. Your signage design is then printed and mounted onto the prepared panel ready for installation. Vinyl applications are guaranteed for up to 7 years outdoors, and the aluminium signage is known to last 25+ years!

All posts for the project were pre-installed, however, we can supply posts for both sunken and surface mounting, with our installations team fully kitted for both options.
